We Read, We Blog, We Teach!

I am so excited to participate in this summer's book study on the The Daily 5 and CAFE by "The Sisters" with other intermediate teachers all over the world! I can hardly wait to see how to adapt this excellent technique into my classroom.

Over the years I have been tweaking my reading/writing program to see how to create independence and a love of reading in my students. I always felt successful, but also felt I could be doing so.much.more. Gail and Joan have been teaching collectively for about 50 years. They have done the research and the time much better than my 6 years could accomplish. I am eager to see how they are working the Daily 5 and Cafe into their classrooms and how it will look for mine. I always want to challenge, solidify, reteach, and remediate to the best I can for each student. This seems like a great way to do just that!

Is anyone else reading these books? Hop on to the discussion. Just go to www.wereadweblogweteach.com and share in the fun!

Happy reading and learning!

Let the Educational Adventure Begin!

I am currently on a maternity leave from school with my new baby girl, Gwendolyn Ruth. I am loving every minute of it!

My Sweet Little Miss!

However, my thoughts are never far from education. I am still constantly thinking about how I can improve my teaching skills and have a creative, engaging, and effective learning environment for my students. I am also quite addicted to Pinterest (who isn't?!) and have found some great teaching blogs that I would have never found otherwise. One blogger is recording her teaching year in a blog to show her lessons and keep an online filing cabinet. I felt inspired to do that too. My dear friend, Ebey,  is teaching in Colorado this year, and we have been sharing ideas over the phone for teaching. I thought if I could put my lessons here in a blog and get feedback to improve, she could have my files as well. Not only could Ebey have the files for her fourth grade class, but I am believer in sharing our knowledge as educators. If anyone is actually reading this, then you are more than welcome to "see it and steal it" if you think it's a good idea. Also, if you think it needs work, please tell me how to improve. I am always seeking ways to better my creativity and teaching skills.

So, let my educational adventures begin as I "go fourth and conquer" the blogging world of education!
